NANCY BUTTON
Nancy is a bit of a nerd. She spent the earliest years of her life pursuing academic excellence and spiritual seeking. She developed an early love of language such that when she arrived to the practice of yoga she was immediately attracted to the depth of philosophy, mythology, and the language of Sanskrt. Because Nancy’s introduction to a serious practice of yoga was for traumatic healing she has studied under therapeutic yoga teachers learning in a wide array of lineages. As a perennial student, Nancy offers deep insights and practical practice techniques to her students in her classes and trainings. As well as being an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500) Nancy is also a Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT) and keeps a lighthearted and playful tone to stay connected to sensations and new development.
NANCY BUTTON
Nancy was born and raised in Idaho in a large family of high achievers. She enjoyed an active lifestyle of education and athletics including years of competitions in jumprope, soccer, and running.
After college (AA Education at University of Utah, BA English/Theatre at BYU-Hawaii), marrying, becoming a mother of biological children and foster children, nine fixer-upper homes, and completing a Master’s Degree (MA Composition/Rhetoric IPFW) while teaching as an adjunct faculty at Purde-Fort Wayne in writing and rhetoric, she finally broke down in Indiana.
The life altering experience of physical break down set her on a road to deeper understanding of her physical body and to discover inner peace as she shed the identity attached to achievement and sought out a more balanced next phase of life.
A five years exploration of medicines, homeopathic alternatives, and seeking inspiration led her to Gretchen Fruchey (500EYT) where yoga became key in rebuilding her physical body and inner strength.
Two years of tentative practice and one-on-one training helped Nancy develop a very specific understanding of the deeper workings of physiology and psychology of yoga can heal the physical. As personal growth and strength increased, Nancy was introduced to the Inner Power Yoga teacher training.
She completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training with R.R.Shakti and Gretchen in 2017 through Inner Power Yoga and has been sharing yoga with others who are seeking the peace and Inner Power that accompanies the practice of yoga. She has continued to grow and increase her capacity to share yoga with others, particularly children, centering her continued education on children.
Nancy has completed nearly 200 hours of additional yoga training for children through Global Family Yoga, YogaEd, and Radiant Child Yoga learning specifically how to adapt yoga for little minds and bodies to give them tools through yoga asana, stillness, cooperative games, stories, and inner power themes that will enhance their development through adolescence.
Her training includes yogic philosophy as adapted for children, child developmental psychology, brain based learning, social-emotional learning, cooperative based classroom education, national standards for health and physical education, and the therapeutic application of yoga for children with special needs including autism, ADHD, anxiety, sensory processing integration, and other special needs.
Nancy is teacher at heart. She was honored to develop the first ever program for Registered Children Yoga Teachers in the state of Indiana as Button Yoga partnered with Fusion Yoga. Her love for pulling together various pieces of information into a cohesive curriculum continues to follow her throughout the yoga world. She leads summer kids yoga camps across the country.
Right before the pandemic shut down, Nancy completed her 500 hour YTT in person through Fusion Yoga with master teacher Cheryl Oliver of Authentic Yoga with an emphasis in therapeutic applications of yoga, Sanskrit, Vedic Chants, the Koshas and the Yoga Sutras. She then returned as faculty in the Fusion Yoga 300hr and 200hr teacher training to expound on her specialties creating weekend modular trainings and infusing more mythology in new teachers.
Nancy, her husband, three teenage children, and their cat moved back to Oahu in 2021 to bask in the balanced life approach of staying connected to nature and each other. Nancy found her community of like minded seekers when she stepped into the roll of studio manager at Yoga Collective Oahu and helped to build the foundation of a beautiful community. She stays grounded with (almost) weekly hikes in the Oahu mountains and goes with the flow surfing regularly, if not well.
LAURA ANDERSON
Laura is a mover and shaker. She has been connected to movement all her life through from the Midwest all the way to our island paradise. She gained the nick name “the yoga coach” for her enthusiastic yoga classes in LA and along the professional beach volleyball circuit. As a life-long student, Laura worked and trained amongst several master teachers and key thinkers in the yoga industry in LA and racked up over 2,000 hours of training under their tutelage. As an Experienced Registered Yoga teacher (E-RYT 500) Laura has learned and adapted her teaching style to help people become more aware and appreciative of their own innate capacity to move. Laura’s special love of biomechanics, deep anatomy, functional fitness, and adaptation have made her yoga classes and trainings an inspiring blend of passion and humility.
Laura believes in focusing on the actions and detail of the poses, rather than what poses look like from one person to the next; because yoga looks different in every body.
Authentic to her energetic personality, her classes are challenging enough for the athletically minded, sprinkled with fun flowing sequences, yet instructive enough for all levels determined to improve upon their own practice. She emphasizes taking the time to set up postures, to decrease risk of injury, and focuses on increasing both mobility and stability.
She hopes to help students build the foundation toward a healthy, lifelong, invigorating yoga practice for years to come. Laura truly believes the journey of yoga is a lifestyle and her passion for teaching yoga is strongly influenced by Annie Carpenter (Smart Flow) and Thomas Taubman of Yogaworks, Maty Ezraty and is currently studying under Jules Mitchell.
Laura draws upon several elements of her unique background in shaping her approach to yoga. As a former professional beach volleyball player she understands the importance of discipline, routine and structure emphasizing proper movement, technique and alignment to incrementally build her students' practice, while managing and preventing injuries.
